About
Established in 1923, the Opunake Surf Life Saving Club has proudly patrolled Opunake Beach for over 100 years. We’re a community-driven club with a strong sense of local pride, offering a wide range of activities for both junior and senior members.
In 2023, we celebrated our 100-year centenary — a milestone that reflects our enduring commitment to keeping our beach safe.
Our top priority is ensuring Opunake Beach is patrolled every weekend throughout summer. Our volunteer lifeguards also form part of the regional after-hours Rescue Squad, responding to sea and foreshore search and rescue callouts.
We’re a fun, friendly club that embraces our community spirit. Our Junior Surf programme (for ages 7 and up) runs Sundays at 10 am from late November to March — it’s all about learning surf safety, gaining confidence, and training the next generation of lifeguards.
We welcome new members of all ages — juniors, seniors, and families alike. As a volunteer organisation, we’re incredibly grateful to all those who help us continue providing lifesaving services for our community.
